Fraser Island

Area: 2 km².

Fraser — sandy island at east coast of Australia. Administratively enters into state of Queensland. Island the length — over 110 km, width — from 7 to 23 km has the form extended along coast. It is the biggest in the world sandy island. Dunes which make it were formed about 400 thousand years ago and tower to 240 metres. On island there is more than 40 fresh lakes, largest of which Lake Boemingen the area of 200 hectares. The western coast of island occupy mango woods and bogs, east, turned to ocean — a beach in length about 100 km from white sand. Northern part of island on which untouched damp equatorial woods have remained, makes national park. To 1992 Fraser island it is included in the list of the World heritage of UNESCO, as a unique natural monument. Before the European colonisation of Australia on island lived some thousand natives. In language batchulla the island was called as Kgari — paradise. The modern name is connected with a surname of the captain of Fraser and his wife which ship was wrecked on island. But, in connection with a considerable quantity of rough streams and тигриных sharks, it not the best place for swimming. Radical Australians have occupied island, at least, 5000 years ago. In this connection the mining industry is developed.

• Diplomatic Worker's Day (Russia)

This professional holiday was founded by the Decree of the President of Russia № 1279 from October, 31st, 2002 in commemoration of 200-year-old anniversary of Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Among diplomats also there is a version, that Day of the diplomatic worker is celebrated on February, 10th as this day in 1549 there was earliest mention of the Ambassadorial Order, the first foreign policy department of Russia.
