Glenelg - popular coastal suburb of capital of South Australia of Adelaide. Thanks to good environmental conditions at coast and to a considerable quantity of sights, the city is the big tourist centre. Europeans in Australia have appeared for the first time in this district. Named a city in honour of lord Glenelg, a member of the British Office and the Minister of War of colonies. Two epidemics of a smallpox till 1836 have killed the majority of indigenous population. In a city some bus routes. Also there is a tram. In Glenelg rowing is popular.

This professional holiday was founded by the Decree of the President of Russia № 1279 from October, 31st, 2002 in commemoration of 200-year-old anniversary of Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Among diplomats also there is a version, that Day of the diplomatic worker is celebrated on February, 10th as this day in 1549 there was earliest mention of the Ambassadorial Order, the first foreign policy department of Russia.
