Tucker's Town is a small settlement in St. George's Parish, Bermuda, located in the small part of the parish on the territory's main island, close to the shore of Castle Harbor. Originally intended as a true town and port, the exposed location proved to be less hospitable than was hoped, and few settlers were attracted to the planned town. In the early years of the 20th century, the area was a predominantly black, thriving, independent, community. However, in the early 1920s, the all-white Government of the day uprooted the black inhabitants – by way of eminent domain – “in the name of tourism.” The town attracted the attention of wealthy foreigners, and today it is one of the most exclusive parts of the territory. It is strongly favoured by American and European millionaires, who enjoy the climate, surroundings and tax-free status of the islands. Owners of property in the area include Ross Perot, Silvio Berlusconi, and Michael Bloomberg.
