Biograd

The core of the old settlement lies on a small peninsula. The town wall with round pilework was preserved up to the end of the 19th century. The rests of the cathedral, a dreischiffigen basilica, are completely destroyed, the rests of the minster Saint Johannes, an other dreischiffigen basilica, could be investigated and be preserved from the decay. Only low rests are received from the Thomas' church. Beyond the old settlement were discovered the ruin of a smaller einschiffigen church with apse as well as Old-Croatian graves. The parish church built in 1761 Saint Anastasia rescues baroque altars, one shows of it a golden version. Beyond the old settlement stand the small churches Saint Rochus and Saint Anton (1850). In the other surroundings there are prehistoric finding sites and rests of an antique aqueduct. In the home museum are to be seen an archaeological collection with prehistoric, antique and altkroatischen exhibits as well as remains by ship cargoes from the end of the 16th century. Before the coast the island group of the Kornaten lies away and the national park of the same name is only few sea miles.
