Ecuador is located in the northwest part of South American continent and on Galapagos Islands. In the western part of the country there is an outlet to the waters of Pacific Ocean. The country is divided into four parts which are inshore plain Costa, foothill Sierra, mountains Ands and jungle Oriente.
In the modern territory of Ecuador before the arrival of colonizers lived American Indian tribes of Kara, Kitu, Tumbe, Kaniary and others. Tribes of Kitu have subdued all tribes of Indians and have created the state Kitu. Later they were conquered by Inca tribes.
Now Ecuador is a republican state. The head of state is the president.
Economically the republic of Ecuador is the developed agrarian-industrial state. Agriculture has a big role in national economy. Coffee, citron, pineapples, coffee and cocoa are all grown here.
In the Ands which are located on the territory of Ecuador, there is a world famous village of long-livers named Vilkobamba.
The capital of Ecuador, the city of Kito is a valuable monument of culture. Since 1978 is was taken under UNESCO protection. Many architectural monuments from colonization times have remained here. For example the Cathedral on the Independence square, old Spanish churches, monasteries and cathedrals.
In the national park on Galapagos Islands live elephant turtles.
