Iceland is an island state which is located in the northern part of Atlantic Ocean, to the south of an Arctic circle.
Climate is marine subarctic. Under the influence of a warm current Gulf Stream temperature is high enough for this latitude, average temperature of January is -1 °С, in August it is +10 °С. The strong winds constantly blow here.
Iceland is the constitutional republic in which the head is the president.
The considerable quantity of active volcanoes, geysers, hot springs, lakes, small rivers and falls make a landscape of Iceland very attractive to the international tourism. Tours to Iceland are very popular, therefore it is recommended to reserve them some months before a trip.
There are always lots of tourists on the well-known geothermal lake which temperature does not fall lower than +16 0С. Near to it there are rookeries and picturesque fishing settlements.
The Icelandic poet, the writer, politician Snorri Stuluson lived in village Rejnholt which practically every tourist tends to visit. He is the author of the arch of sagas «the Circle Terrestrial» which was written in 1230.
10 percent of territory is covered by glaciers.
