The republic of Ireland occupies almost the whole island of Ireland which is located in Atlantic Ocean to the west of British. Another part of the island belongs to the Great Britain.

In 1921 Ireland has received independence from England and in 1948 it became the Republic of Ireland. Since January, 1st, 2002 the country is a part of the European Union.

In Ireland there are a lot of architectural monuments of 18th century. In Dublin (the capital of Ireland) there is an obelisk in honor of the viscount of Wellington, its height is 61 meters high. The well-known Dublin Fortress in which there is a unique library of Chester of Beatty, is rather popular among tourists.
In general, in Ireland many various museums are concentrated. The Irish museum of the modern art, the Dublin National gallery, the Dublin Civil Museum, Municipal Gallery of the Modern art. In 1882 writer James Joyce was born here. He was one of the most well-known writers of 20 century. His museum is in the Martello Tower near to the Dublin Mountains.
