Miyazaki is the capital city of Miyazaki Prefecture on the island of Kyūshū in Japan. The city was founded on April 1, 1924. On January 1, 2006 the towns of Tano, Sadowara, and Takaoka merged into the city. As of this merger but with 2003 population estimates, the city had an estimated population of 365,311 and a density of 612 persons per km². The total area is 596.68 km².
