The republic of Latvia is the state in the Eastern Europe. It is washed by the waters of gulf of Riga and the Baltic Sea. It has borders with Estonia, Russia, Belarus and Lithuania.
The head of the state is the president.
Average temperature in the summer is +16 °С … +18 °С, in the winter -2 °С …-7 °С. About 150-170 days in a year the weather in Latvia is cloudy.
It is the industrially-agrarian country. Machine industry, metal working, agriculture, wood and the food-processing industries are especially developed.
In Latvia there is a considerable quantity of festivals, that is why it is often called «the singing country».
The sights of the country are «the old Riga», the Dom cathedral, the Ethnographic museum, the stone bridge in Kuldiga, Ventas Rumba falls, the biggest and the widest falls of Europe. Here there is an international resort Jurmala (14 km from Riga), Sigula resort. There is also set of sanatoria, churches and the most beautiful places in Kurzema and Vidzema.
The important drink for Latvians is a beer, and national dishes are onions klopps, Aukshta Zupa, grain soup, and many fish delicacies.
