Altamira is a municipality and city in Tamaulipas, Mexico. It is located immediately to the north of the municipalities of Tampico and Ciudad Madero, at the southern tip of the state of Tamaulipas, on the Gulf of Mexico. Additionally, it borders the municipalities of González on the west and Aldama on the north, as well as Pánuco in the state of Veracruz on the southeast. Altamira can also refer to the city that is its municipal seat and second-largest community. The municipality is comprised primarily of the cities of Miramar and Altamira, in addition to many smaller outlying towns such as Cuauhtémoc. Additional Note: There´s not a city named "Miramar" in Altamira, that information is wrong. Miramar is the name of a beach zone near Altamira, but in Ciudad Madero. I have been living here in Altamira for almost 32 years and I know there´s not a town or city with the name of "Miramar" in the whole Altamira. For better reference please check the version in Spanish in Wikipedia for Altamira City. There is also a large industrial sector, mainly involved in petro-chemicals, that provides much employment and tax revenue, such as DuPont, GE Plastics, BASF, etc.
