General Information:
Abbekerk is a town in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Noorder-Koggenland, and lies about 9 km north of Hoorn.
Since 1997 the town is controlled by the Medemblik municipality. Although Abberkerk was formally a city, today it is considered more of a village because the administration of the city stopped functioning in 1830. In 1979 it was a municipality itself having Midwoud, Opperdoes, Sijbekarspe, Twisk and the village Hauwert until it merged into Noorder-Koggenland.

History:
On 2 February 1414 Willem VI combined, Twisk, Midwoud and Lambertschaag to the city of Abbekerk. A city hall was then created, but could not function anymore after Twisk and Midwoud were sold.
The land contained gas and coal and a company Grasdrogerij Hartog was recognized internationally. In 2001 the company already had a large brand and was expanding its structures.
