General Information:
Aduard is a village in the municipality of Zuidhorn. It is located about 8 km northwest of the dutch province Groningen.

History:
Aduard was founded back in 1192 by a Cistercian abbey, where famous early Humanists like Rodolphus Agricola and Wessel Gansfort studied and lectured. The city had large fields of flowers. The size that the land covered was so large, in terms of area that it was larger than the city of Groningen. In 11th of September 1575 the convent was mainly gone (which began in 1192). Today the catholic church is served as a hostel and not much else of the history has survived in the village.
