General Information: Alkmaar is a municipality and a city in the Netherlands, in the province of Noord Holland. Alkmaar is well-known for its traditional cheese market. History: In 2004, Alkmaar celebrated the establishment of the town which occured 750 years ago. The town rights were granted on 11 June 1254 by Willem II van Holland. The city served as an army base at the time of war against Westfriezen.
