When you finally find you've had enough of Madeira's wine-loving scene, you may want to take pause to enjoy some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. Sheer cliffs plunge thousands of feet to the ocean, with dramatic waterfalls cascading down rocky mountain peaks and lush green terraces and gardens appearing in the valleys and countryside below. Madeira is also famed for its wicker industry, which provides tourists the opportunity to ride a wicker toboggan in lovely Monte village or to see the wicker grown and woven in Camacha. Funchal, the largest city and capital of Madeira, is home to many of the hand-embroidery workshops which have made the area famous for its stunning colorful tapestries with the famous ornate gobelin stitch.
