Spiez is a municipality in the district of Niedersimmental in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It has approximately 12,500 inhabitants and is located at the south bank of Lake Thun. Worth a visit is the castle above the harbour with its representation rooms 13th to 18th century. The Hotel Belvédère in Spiez accommodated the German national football team during the 1954 World Cup (soccer) held in Switzerland. "The spirit of Spiez", developed there among the players, is regarded as important factor that helped the German team to win the world championship.
