Donington is a village lying eight miles north of the market town of Spalding, Lincolnshire, on the A152, and bypassed by the A52. It is the birthplace of the explorer Matthew Flinders. His former school, the Thomas Cowley High School is also the alma mater of Lord (Donald) Bruce of Donington, a Labour peer who helped establish the NHS. Donington is home to three pubs: the Queen Inn, the Black Swan and the Black Bull. There is a Coop in the Market Place. The church is called St Mary and the Holy Rood. Donington Football Club is very well established. The club runs two open age football teams Old Doningtonians for those over the age of sixteen, these teams playing in the Saturday Boston League. The club also runs Young Dons (established in 1996) which offers a quality and safe environment for children from the age of seven to under sixteen to enjoy and develop their game of football, these teams playing in the Mid-Lincs Junior League.
