Milton Ernest is a village and civil parish in the Bedford district of Bedfordshire, England, and is about five miles north of Bedford itself. The village is situated on the east bank of the River Great Ouse, and is the site of Milton Ernest Hall, which was used as the US 8th air force's support command headquarters in the Second World War. Milton Ernest's Church (All Saints) was built between the 12th and 15th centuries. Milton Ernest has a small (60-65 pupils) but very successful village school, closely linked to the church. The middle school within catchment of Milton Ernest is Lincroft middle school, in the village of Oakley, around three miles away from Milton Ernest. The upper school within catchment is Sharnbrook Upper School and community college, in the village of Sharnbrook, also around three miles away. Glen Miller took off from RAF Twinwood Farm nr Milton Earnest on his last (ill fated) flight before he disappeared, and the Queens Head in the village was the site that Glenn Miller was last spotted before his the flight. Milton Ernest Garden Centre is one of the main features of the village, as the only one in the surrounding areas. Another attraction is Bob's shop, a run down unfurnished shop that most mistake for an abandoned building. Bob is a well liked local character.
