Bolivia is located in the central part of the South American continent. People call their country «the roof of the world» because the most part of its territory lies highly in mountains.
Through all the territory of the country pass the Andes. In these mountains there is the highest plateau in South and North America. In the eastern part of the country there is an Amazonian plain. Long times ago on the Bolivian territory were found deposits of precious metals - gold and silver. It was the reason of the Spanish colonization of Bolivia in 16th century. The state has received independence in 1825 when it has been released from colonial oppression by the Venezuelan army.
The basis of Bolivian economy is a mining industry. On the country’s territory there is an extraction of silver, tin, lead, copper and tungsten.
In Bolivia there are Indian ruins of ancient civilizations of Uankarani, Chiripi, Inka and Tiauanaku.
