Abu Dhabi (Arabic: أبو ظبي ʼAbū Ẓabī, literally "Father of Gazelle") is the capital and second largest city of the United Arab Emirates. It is also the capital and largest city of the emirate of Abu Dhabi, which is the largest of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates by size. It was said by CNN to be the richest city in the world and is located in the center of the northern part of the United Arab Emirates. The city lies on a T-shaped island jutting into the Persian Gulf from the central western coast. An estimated 1.8 million people lived there in 2006, with about an 80% expatriate population. Abu Dhabi city is located at 24°28′00″N 54°22′00″E / 24.4667, 54.3667. At the head of Abu Dhabi and across from the Corniche is Lulu Island, a semi-natural landmass that is arguably the most strategic and valuable piece of property in the Emirate.
