Falkirk (Scottish Gaelic: An Eaglais Bhreac, lit. 'the Variagated [or 'Speckled'] Church' (presumably referring to a church building built of many-coloured stones); French: 'La Chapelle de Fayerie') is a town in central Scotland lying to the north west and north east of the cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow, respectively. In 2004 the population, according to the General Register Office for Scotland, was 32,890 making Falkirk the 20th largest settlement in Scotland.
